Located just 5km from Karambi Mountain Station, Mutovu is a neighboring site named after the river that flows at its base. This river, along with rainwater from the mountain, serves as the primary water source for the washing station. Rainwater is collected in tanks and distributed throughout the site. After use, water undergoes filtration with lime added to adjust the pH, and is then held in lagoons for anaerobic breakdown before evaporating.

Mutovu is a small washing station covering 2 hectares, situated near the towns of Gatare and Gikangaga. Built in 2012, the station was acquired by RTC in 2018. It operates with a core team of five full-time staff and hires an additional 70 seasonal workers, 90% of whom are women. The station processes cherries from 995 contributing farmers, all of whom have either completed or are actively participating in RTC’s training program. Since 2018, production has increased from 240 tons to 300 tons of cherries annually. The contributing farms, located within a 0.5 to 5km radius, are supported by 12 collection points and typically have around 3,500 coffee trees each.
